In September the University of Oxford had the great pleasure of hosting Prof. Dr. Heyo Kroemer (CEO of the Charité Hospital, Berlin) as part of the University’s continuing collaboration with the Charité through the Oxford-Berlin Research Partnership.
Prof Kroemer, along with his colleague from the Charité, Dr Magnus Rüde, had a busy schedule in the City of Dreaming Spires; from meetings at Oxford University Press and the Weston library, to talks at the John Radcliffe Hospital and presentations on the latest, cutting-edge medical research taking place at the Big Data Institute..
As this was his very first visit to Oxford, Prof Kroemer also made sure to visit the Bodleian Library and even made time for a Formal at St Hugh’s.
During this visit, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Irene Tracey CBE, met with Prof. Kroemer to discuss ways to deepen collaboration between the University of Oxford and the Charité. Of the visit, Prof Tracey said:
It was wonderful to welcome Prof. Dr Kroemer to Oxford and have the opportunity to showcase some of the cutting-edge research taking place in our Medical Sciences Division. Charité is an extraordinarily impressive institution too with ambitious and exciting plans; we look forward to what the future holds for potential further collaborations between our two institutions.
The Charité, one of Europe's largest university hospitals, is affiliated with Humboldt University and Free University Berlin and is regularly ranked as one of the top hospitals in Europe.
Established in 2017, the goal of Oxford in Berlin is to strengthen the direct ties between German and British researchers and students, and to deepen scientific cooperation between our researchers.
