For most policy issues we are facing today the problem is not that we don’t know enough but rather that our knowledge is complex and needs synthesising. Furthermore, we are facing the twin challenges of academic deglobalisation and the politicisation of collaboration, last seen during the Cold War. Andy Hurrell stressed that academic integrity and independence means that you have to achieve a different distance from those debates in order to add to those debates.
